Ok, I'm thinking about contributing. What are the benifits of doing so? Do i get candy?

Depends on what you contribute. If its something good, you get Contributor Status, which basically gives you playtester status.

In most cases contributing something that is used towards the modification, you will be granted Contributor stats.. Which will grant you playtesting abilities, as well as perhaps a little something in source in the future..
