View Full Version : I have a really crappy computer, wonder if ZP:S will work

Here is my system specs
GeForce MX4000 (I know it's horrible)
2.8 GHz CPU (not even duo core)
512MB Ram
40GB (incredibly small)
Will it work? Because the games such as Zombie Master gives me like 4 FPS, or is it that I just have a hell lot of virus? (last time I scanned there was 87 Trojans xD)
Anyways, I would also appreciate any tweaking help also. Thanks for reading!

Wow, im not sure if this is going to help... Try lowering your dx level to 7.0
in the steam game menu, right click Zombie Panic! Source and click "set launch options" and type this in: -dxlevel 70
click okay and try to play the game :P

Haha I'm scaning for viruses right now, I got 35 Trojans in only 2 minutes 30000 files xDDDDD
BTW, thanks for replying especially telling me the dx level thing because I have a feeling that it would help!

(As taken from the sticky in the tech support forums (http://www.zombiepanic.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6869))
Processor: 1.2 GHz Processor
OS: Windows, 2000/XP/Me/98
Graphic card: DirectX 7 level graphics card
Hard Drive: 4.5 GB
Memory: 256 MB RAM
Other: Internet Connection, DVD-ROM Drive
Steam + Source SDK
Your processor is fine. When I looked it up, your graphics card looked to be DirectX 7-capable. The space available on your hard drive is what you make of it. And you have double the necessary ram. So long as you optimize your settings and get rid of those viruses, you should be able to run it. It won't be pretty, but my Radeon 9000/2.4 ghz processor can run it with 40-50 FPS on the lowest settings. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do the same.

Dreva, thanks but is Radeon 9000 like at the level of MX4000 or is it like GeForce 9200GT

Search for "fps". A guy uploaded a config, use his config, you may just scrape by then.

Screw it, http://www.zombiepanic.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8317
Didn't realize the term fps would be too short for the search.
Edit:
Also have a look at this - http://www.zombiepanic.org/forums/showpost.php?p=102764&postcount=15
Mine has a lot of the same as the other guys but his has more, except his probably makes the game look uglier but yield better fps.
Take a look at my one first, then check out the other guy's if you want, I reckon you're gonna need his one though.

???? it man, do not go on bigbootyb*****s anymore.
Seriously get rid of the viruses, trojans, spyware. You will not be able to get above 10fps on this game with any of those on your system.
Free software you can use:
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware
AVG anti virus
Zone alarm firewall
There are more but someone else can list 'em.

I have ad aware and AVG free. I use to have Norton (not free) too

No firewall? Get one.
On another note, norton blows. It used to be good until symantec got their hands on it.
It is a hell of a resource hog.
Kaspersky anti virus is good.
This website is the ULTIMATE in virus scanning - http://virusscan.jotti.org/
It can only scan one file at a time & you need to upload it, it's best used for something you downloaded in a .rar or .zip & are not sure is safe.

Hey I got a question, how long you been using computers? Also you are over 15?
First Question: 4 years
Second Question: I'm 14.5 years old
OMG Kaspersky is screwed up it gave me viruses once

If Kaspersky gave you viruses you probably downloaded a "cracked" version which had a virus loaded into it by the person that "released" it.
???? man, 4 years!!??! You should already know to have a firewall running 24/7 & a router if you can.

Bah, not really that needed, and a router is only begging for problems if you buy average/cheap ones. Especially if you try to have a lan.
Why care about getting a router unless it's for your connection, when you can just grab an anti-virus system with inbuilt firewall, that's if you don't have the will to just make a ghost image of your C: partition and save all that RAM for pure gaming.
If you get virus which should be maybe once a year or something, sure. *GHOST IMAGE* done. :)

If your system is infested, I suggest formatting it and then installing one of the newer versions of windows XP with the updates slipstreamed in. I personnally recommend the latest "Windows XP Performance Edition", which is a stripped down version of winxp with service pack 2. It has worked wonders for me. Needless to say 'this wasn't released by micros0ft'...
Other than that, I recommend installing:
1) Spybot - Search and Destroy (Make sure to install TeaTimer as well!)
2) NOD32, you can get the 2.7 version and then install the legal trial patch, NSane 2.2. It's not the latest version, but will do just fine (and doesn't involve a crack)
3) Zone Alarm, if you need a firewall
4) Older drivers for your videocard (definately not the newest)
If you need any help with any of this, ask around or pm me. However, everything is at your own risk, so keep that in mind ;)

Just to point this out. ZP:S is much more graphically demanding than ZM. I don't think viruses alone can push you down to 4 fps. I don't think that you will see too much improvement.

I used a program to hack my own computer to remove viruses... it was pretty much an overkill but i like doing it :P
