ok then,
My first thread and sorta one of my first source maps.
its still under alot of construction but a beta is playable.

Any suggestions, tips or whatever u think about the map! post it here.

there is not much info besides that this is a sorta.. town-ish city? wich is locked down .
hey atleast i posted a screenshot ^^.
i also had cars that were moving (with train track) but that became a bit annoying.

It looks okay so far. Where did you get that bus -model? I didn't find any from vALVE's directories in SDk so I'm making own model.

You should add more windows for those brick buildings. Just to make it look more realistic. ;) Also add some props like antennas and satellite dishes and brush based chimneys on those "office buildings"..

the bus model? i'm not sure where its located, ... HL2 props? ..
and yes, in beta.2 wich is playable, u will find some more windows :) and beta 3 will have even more.

The School bus was a custom prop for zps, I'm sure you can do a filter for school bus and find it.

thanks for explaining that ^^, i just found it in my props folder right away so i had no idea.
btw. beta 3 release prolly 2day.
I tested beta2 yesterday with around 10people,
lots of whining and crying how open the map is but zombies still win so its hard to ballance this :)

looks pretty good so far, looks like your main layouts done

now concentrate on optimising and detailing

try to squeeze every single detail possible into the map, and after that, try to squeeze every frame per second while keeping detail, thats the key, balance, not too detailed, not to slow running

i hate to detail :| and i suck at it too!
i just wanna make a fun map, not a realistic high detailed one tbh.

what you see here is some dead grass ,plants, abadoned cars

some more abandoned stuff, parking spots, gun store with some barriers far in the back.
and some "didn't see that before you said it"stuff in the map itself ^^,

Now I have to say this first before you make new compile/beta4: Remove shadows from those bushes, they look kinda ugly/weird.. Now those buildings look better tough. :)

the screenshots are pretty low quality due i used paint , sorry for that.
if you wanna betatest it, see it ingame or whatever.. add me on steamfriends (search for fuzi0n) .

so what you guys think ? don't be to harsh its still my first serious map ever.

I like where the light hits the buildings, this map looks really great so far. But all the roads are so small they have to be oneway? lol, Im looking forward to this map! :)

i made them smaller because else it would be just 1 big shooting range for zombies ^^.
I had to smaller everything to make it a little balance .
yeah don't take this map seriously nor realistic.

Hmmm, change texture of sidewalk...
You are currently using Prison Bathroom one, imo (or some other interior tile floor).

There are some textures from hl2 specially created for sidewalks... .

and u tell me now? xD if we all use the same textures on sidewalks, it would get a bit boring though. but i will look into it.

i don't want to get myself in that such trouble .
as said this is my first source map that i'm gonna release so i rather keep it a little simple for now untill i learned some stuff.
im Reading alot now about mapping at interlopers, i'm still pretty lost at skyboxes etc.

But your map looks great so far, try to add more details into the streets as in trashcans, junk, windows, papers on the walls. Stuff like that makes it look a whole lot better.

kinda ????ty to do but get Nems (also from the compiler) terrain editor or whatever its called.
get it from nems site, its really good ^^.

edit. New house added to the map wich u can enter and barricade ,wich was missing in the map.

i actually moved the light_env on accident , anyway i moved it back to its place.
beta4 is playable , if any servers wanna host it, i will upload the bsp.

One question
If that bus desides to drive down one of the roads in the map, whats it gonna do when another driver is driving the opsite way?
Point is make them roads bigger!
those things are the sizes of sidewalks, the bus is like filling out the whole road

they prolly drive into eachother.
i can only make the road bigger by just resizing or removing the sidewalks.
im going to try to make the roads bigger, and see how its gonna look.

next time ya take a screen for a photo like that, go to obs mode so you wont have a crosshair.

I wonder how your map will turn out. It looks kinda interesting.
My advice is that you make one way trafic, you know the vehichles only drive towards one direction, one laned. That way you can keep the size of the roads, basically you switch road textures and then it's all done. :)

thats exactly what i did ^^, i just don't feel like posting every small update.
This is not just a city/town place so don't expect that.
i was more thinking of an small experimental city , that would explain the walls around it .
Beta 4 = PLAY-able , i just have no server atm thats willing to host it so i can test it out with 15+ people.
Walking around alone in the map with the testmode on isn't really Testing the map.

Aye, I have a computer just standing around in my appartment, it isn't really powerful, although I've planned to use it as a server now and then. I have no idea if it's good enough to hold 15+ players though, but it can at least take 10 players. However this might be blasphemy in some eyes, but that computer won't have linux for several reasons. :wacko:

I'm also going to use that computer in order to host my maps, so yours are welcome. However I have a lot of stuff going on at the moment, so it might take a little while for the server to get up.

Why? Got some serious upcoming exams that I need to study for, won't even have time for my own map. :dry:

its a big map with a ton of police cars and large open spaces. Theres a few places you can go and almost everywhere there is a body of someone from HL2. Could use some stuff in the 3D skybox to make it look less plain.

The commons room is pretty basic. I would probably have the team join locations farther apart.

Only played it with 2 other people so it wasn't much of a test of gameplay.

well, its not that big, stuff is pretty basic yes.
the spawn points are not really that close to eachother, but most of them are.
and i've tested it with a full server of 20 people , i know what to fix now.
