Because the mod "No More Room In Hell" claims they are.

Unless they assumed they were going to release their bum-version game before ZP:S?

Which mod is the first zombie HL2 mod is just a never ending discussion. ZP made their HL1 version of Zombie Panic while waiting for the Source SDK to be released (It was released in early 2005) and NMRiH claims that they have been working on their game for 4 years. It doesn't really matter really but when they started saying "The first HL2 Zombie Mod" we countered with "The mod that started it all!".

In the end we are two completely different zombie mods and it's not a competition, we will release now and they will probably release later on. Who was first is not important.

ZP:S is not the first mod, theres already one out there which is playable.

As NMRiH thats been kinda put together by some people from the forums here.

Instead of putting out something first, why not concern yourselves with putting out something of quality first. Valve is working on that with their zombie mod.

You gotta say that that owns pretty much. They think they?re cool and says that they started working on the mod since before the source SDK was released (Which is impossible, but whatever) and then you counter by saying that THEY weren?t the ones who started the whole zombiemod rampage. That?s a nice thing.

i thought that HL1 and HL:2 which had it's own zombies was sorta what started it all.

Those are aliens, not really zombies.

To be honest, who gives a flying haddock about a mod unless they actually release something. NMRiH can yap all they want about being the first mod, but where's the release?

It depends on from what perspective you're looking at it. If we're talking which source zombie mod that started developing first, I have no idea, but it could very well be ZP; if we're talking which source zombie mod that was released first, it was Zombie Master.

I'm certain I will personally prefer ZP:S over L4D, but I think L4D will be more popular - at least initially - because it is being developed by Valve (or was it just being backed by Valve?). But as long as ZP:S will have a large enough playerbase I will be happy!

Ya, L4D will probably still be more popular because of that. It was more commercial. I dont know if it is still being marketed by valve or not. But either way, to me zp:s will still be better.

Turtle Rock Studios is developing Left 4 Dead. It's being backed by Valve.

You should all support ZPS as "The first source zombie mod" regardless of any other posibilities. You are our mindless zombie hordes, no one else owns you!

L4D will be more popular none the less then. But the gameplay of it just sounded kinda retarded to me. So im not interested in it. Zp:s is better in my opinion though.

And the first zombie mo.... Wai...

ZOMBIE PANIC IS THE FIRST ZOMBIE MOD FOR SOURCE

Well being backed by Valve means a lot.

When you back something, you give it your seal of approval and hopefully it meets your standards. So while it may be developed by a third party, Valve makes a portion of the profit and oversees a percent of the project. I'm sure Valve has about a 35-40% stake in L4D.

I think it seems like L4D will be pretty fun, but I'm saving money and I will have ZP:S to keep me busy, so I will most likely not buy it.

NeoAssassin

It's no doubt that they have a big portion of it. What other reason would they back them for other than to get profit out of it?

well thats exactly how it works. Basically Turtle Rock asks Valve for some help with production (money, resources, contacts, experience) and in exchange Valve decides if they are worth investing in. If so they set up an agreement and decide on how much equity they want. Once an agreement is decided upon you have a more successful product.

i forgot all about zombie master, which is a...fun game in a "different" way (aka fun when you first play it then A*S over 3 weeks
)
i think zombie panic started it all...then brainbread? then....[source] zombie master?

was HL2 even out 4 years ago? thats a long time to mantain such a claim that they've been constructing it ever since though

oh yeah: "one's who started it all" > "the first HL2 zombie mod"
