Pathetic. While I myself dont particulary care for the game, thats blatent censorship.
Edit: They should just rate it Adults only, and not place it on the shelves in stores for children to get a hold of. I guarantee that you can find movies that are just as bad in britain, and anywhere else the game is sold/notsold.

I think it is ridiculous how games are banned. It doesn't seem to be a partipiculary violent game anyways.

lol, its a very violent game, I have the first one, though I have never played it for more than 30 mins. Its probably the most violent game I have ever played. but thats beside the point. The british censor board is now deciding what you have the right to view yet again.

The only other game to get this treatment was Carmageddon, which got overturned after an appeal. Apprantly thet feel the game couldn't even be toned down to be acceptable. It's just the straw breaking the camels back, a knee-jerk reaction in the face of all the current political interest in games. It'll be released somehow, sooner or later, just watch.
UPDATE: It's starting to flare up in the US over the Wii version as well. http://gamepolitics.com/ Current top story.

Im not surprised at all in the uk, They banned it because they dont want to be slagged off by the press after the first manhunt apparently influenced someone in the way they murdered their best friend.
As i said its not a particularly amazing game so im not fussed.

[UPDATE] The Irish Film Censor's Office has also announced that the game has been banned in the Republic of Ireland. In a statement, the board gave its reasoning as follows, "IFCO recognizes that in certain films, DVDs and video games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall context of the work. However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence is unacceptable."
Nice. Now Ireland banned it also. Jack Thompson's probably happy right now.

Yeah, like all those small kids that are only five years old and sees a picture of some scary eye and goes "Daddy, I want that game!" and then the dad goes "Of course kiddo". Who in the right sense of mind would even buy such a game to a minor? It?s enough to put a 18+ sign on and tell all the stores to put the game out of the reach of children.

Good grief this game scares me. It is sooo effing freaky. I went to my friends house and he was playing with a plastic bag.. KILLING PEOPLE. Can you believe that. That is so ????ing stupid. UK is lucky to ban this game, other countries should as well. Its too violent for my taste
Some carnage is good now and then but seriously this game takes it to the max
Seems like your the only one who is for the ban <.<.
...
Oh, that means he's an outsider!:ninja:
Anyways, I myself think it's just idiotic to ban any game, instead of improving the rules, and try to make people keep them.
(I have been able to buy games and I did, which I still was too young to legally buy:ohmy:)

I am Canadian sir
and if this game was found on a minor (that did something bad) I'd blame this game.

Manhunt 1 sucked. I bought it and got a bonus little voice changer thingy when I ordered it online. It's the only reason I actually bought the game. Then after I beat the game and realized it had no replay value, I sold it.
Maybe if they offer something neat with manhunt 2 I might buy it, but just for the toy. I admit I'm one of those kids who dug through cereal boxes just for toys.

Tis too violent for my taste aswell, but I dont see myself as above others to the point of dictating what game they can or cant play.

06-19-2007, 04:45 PM
Well the reason why I want it banned is because I think it would influence other people to do really really stupid things. People blame video games for the violence children cause when the real problem is the parents themselves. Why are you buying them these games anyway. Why are you spoiling them etc..
People don't really care about ratings (people who sell the games). They just sell you the game if you have money thats it.
Hastings

Anything can influence anyone to do stupid things, but only the most stupid will actually act upon that influence. If we are going to ban manhunt, we should also ban over 50% of rap music too. And thats just one example.
Censorship does not make up for poor parenting.

Don't forget movies, tv shows, etc. I really don't understand why video games constantly take the blunt of the blame for violence these days. Media in general should be blamed, not just one form of it. Hell, take a look at the news. All you ever see is horrible news of death and violence. You think kids aren't watching and possibly thinking it'd be a rush if they did the same thing since they would essentially be 'famous', per se, since they'd constantly be talked about.

QFT Man, QFT.
If anything, violent games help you release the rage in a safe manner, compared to releasing on say, your spouse/child/etc.
This game takes it to the max!
To the max extreme!
If you can't take it to the max, don't try to stop others from taking it to the max as well...
This game is rated A for adult, as such that only older people (18 or older) and kids with really bad parents would have the game. No worries for me.

yeah, like games with people shooting other people, thats just horrendous, and they should remove blood. Like back in the day when they had Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis WITH blood and Mortal Kombat for Super Nintendo WITHOUT blood and gore.
Seriously though, sometimes people take stuff to the extreme because they are allowed. Society needs censorship to function normally. If you just watch the news now, it's nothing uplifting. Most of America hates itself, a lot of other countries don't like us either. A lot of it has to do with the crap they put on television too.
Then we get Paris Hilton and her "jail time." Which she gets to do at her leisure. Imagine if criminals got to decide when they wanted to do their 3 life sentences for killing entire families? America needs to think about whats really important sometime.
If manhunt 2 was going to be too violent, it never would have even been started because the idea would not have been approved. The fact is that someone's idea for the game recieved approval from a lot of people and kept on being approved through production. The company is satisfied with the product, some countries are not.
The US has a lot lower standards for what it tolerates. Over in the EU people are a lot more health concious as well as morally concious so this really does not come to a shock to me. I mean the US is the only civilized country that markets rBGH as safe, while every other civilized country claims its unsafe and unethical.
Does one game really make a difference, not entirely. But it just shows how much we've degenerated as a society in the past half century. Though advanced as we are in technology we've lost a lot of moral ground.

When everyone says 'There are films, books, music etc that are worse than this' I think it's worth mentioning that all those mediums have existed for a lot longer than games, and they have all at some point had exactly the same kinds of controversy. There was the 'video nasty' phase in the 80s, this is just video games reaching it's 'gaming nasty' phase. I'm not surprised at this reaction, it was fairly obvious that if any game was going to 'go too far' it would be this one. For now, it's illegal to sell (but not posess, at least) Manhunt 2 in the UK, and it has been given an AO rating in America, meaning it's restricted by store policy from most major shops, as I understand it.
Only time will tell how this plays out, but to those of you saying 'meh, i'm glad it's banned' just remember it's a slippy slope. Today, Manhunt, tomorrow GTAIV, maybe Halo 3 after that. By christmas we could be left with nothing to play but Barbie Riding Adventure for the PS3, XBox 360 and Wii!

No, it's just sale within the UK that's illegal, not possesion or buying over the net, so an imported copy is fine.
You know Cheese, the internet never occured to me, since when have you been able to get stuff imported over the net? Do they e-mail it to you, how would that work?
Finally, nicked this from another message board having a discussion about this:
Rockstar will win on appeal, and the publicity will double their sales.
It is however a well known fact that computer games cause murders. The first recorded murder in the UK occured in 1982 just weeks after the release of space invaders, and the murder rate continued to rise throughout the 1980s, with a brief dip in 1988 when applications to plumbing courses peaked instead following the release of the NES.
During the 1990s fights started erupting outside the hitherto peaceful sanctury of the pub when street fighter two hit the games charts, and a host of alton towers clones were established as a result of the success of theme park
Computer game influenced behaviour was proven yet again in the 2000 olympics when the sprint was won by an american counter strike veteran who carried a knife during the sprint so he could run faster.

The game just won't be sold in stores in the UK. However you can surely just go to the online site and order it there using a credit card. Then they just ship it to your house after a few days.

Well, it officially isn't happening for Manhunt 2. Sony and Nintendo have released statements saying that they will not allow an AO rated game to be released on any of their systems. The only options for Take Two are to recut the game to get it M rated, or just release it on PC.

06-21-2007, 10:14 AM
eh, doesn't surprise me. Nintendo has always been concious about that sort of thing. Never figured Sony would be too. They probably will have a UNRATED version for PC or something but then again, I can't really think of anything that isn't porn that has an adult only rating to it.

Along the lines of a maniac being released from prison by another maniac, and Maniac A has to go kill people for the enjoyment of Maniac B. 'Least that's what I believe. There's also a lot of grisly death scenes. A lot.

Doesn't really come as a suprise after hearing that Nintendo and Sony banned it. Microsoft would be the only one left with a market and they would dominate it. And the other guys wouldn't really like it if Microsoft monopolized a product.

Look at this from the wikipedia article on Manhunt 2, notice the bolded part:
Jack Thompson
Following Manhunt 2's announcement, attorney Jack Thompson promised to file suit to block the sale of Manhunt 2 and Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV. Take-Two petitioned U.S. District Court, FLSD to block Thompson's pending lawsuit. Thompson immediately filed a counter-suit, accusing Take-Two and various other prominent game media outlets of racketeering. The dispute was later settled: Thompson agreed to not sue or threaten to sue to block sale or distribution of any game published by Take-Two. In turn, Take-Two agreed to drop a prior suit accusing Thompson of contempt-of-court in a previous suit over Take-Two's Bully.
In a letter to Wendy's CEO Kerrii Anderson, Thompson demanded that the restaurant drop an upcoming promotion featuring children's toys designed after the Wii games Excite Truck, Wii Sports and Super Mario Galaxy because Manhunt 2 was scheduled for release on the console. An excerpt from Thompson's letter states: "Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy?s good name to promote Nintendo?s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform."
From what is looks like, Jack Thompson(Jacky Boy!) is a somewhat single minded person.
