Should I just learn to use the Hammer Editor in Source? And we I learn that, wouldn't hl1 hammer editor be basically the same thing?

not exactly, but there very similar, 3.5 is for hl1 maps, and 4.0(which can only be gotten after you buy hl2) is for hl2 maps. they are similar. but everything is basically changed, for the better. and easier to use. learn more at http://www.snarkpit.com

Hammer:Source is a more 'detailed' version of the Valve Hammer Editor. You get better textures, you create more complex brushes, etc.

Meh, Hammer is catching up to Radiant, but it's still not there yet.
