As promised we stayed up till 7:30am to make sure it was available Friday for the rest of the world! We will be posting more news again shortly and revealing more. We would also like to point out that instead of massive updates we'll be attempting to put out smaller updates more often.

Okay new zombie hands and maybe a few new survivor models/weapons. Is zombie vision fixed yet then? How about weapon distribution... the UI... game balance? Any of that... touched?

Someone was going to make a map with that name, but I think he changed it. Other then that map I don't know of any others.
And I guess you might want to think of a different name. :/

Wow, Always appreciate the hard work you put into this mod.
Achievements, new zombie hands, new maps and I am pretty sure that the zombie in that video was the waitress, she sure looks different.

Jepp, ... me too. Achievements! :wacko: Thats a "must have" for every game today. Only thing I hope is that they made it this way that it support more standard zps gameplay and not cabin/church/lake gameplay like "kill 20/40/60 zombies with a revolver".
Can you make achievements only available for standard maps?

Gradius, I agree with you with the L4D vision style.
But I want is new animations, very cool animations :D It's only i want, the new aniomations would make this mod more cool and scary ofcourse. The zombie animation attack always make me laugh heh :laugh:

Animations need an animator, that's a valid excuse, but basic gameplay issues that have gone unsolved since the steamworks release? That's kind of poor. Don't get me wrong, its not very "wow thats amazing" work but I consider it the stuff that matters, the peas and carrots of a mod. If this mod is just the cheap candy bar afterwards then it feels dead inside to me.
I did enjoy it immensely, it can still be enjoyed, there are still many good points and some good things being put in but it just feels... like it isnt living up to its potential.

Gradious what official maps have vents?
The only official map that has a possibility of a impenetrable cade is the front door on harvest which is easy enough to get around.
And I strongly disagree about melee weapons. Give me a pan and some armor and Ill go one on one with the carrier.
As for the zombie vision thing. It is up to the mapper to put lights in his/her map that allows zombies to see in darker places. EArkham has been generous enough to provide light prefabs which includes a zombie light that lights up an area just barely, but lights it enough that zombies can see.

Easy to fix gameplay flaws like ....
Zombies still spend 90% of the round either wandering around looking for humans or getting ak'd to death by a pack of humans while they slowly slowly wear down their ammo. Duh... zombies are SUPPOSED to go wander around and look for survivors. And if they get "AK'd to death" they need more practice at the game. You can't pin bad players on us.
The carrier still has no way to command his fellow zombies despite his obvious potential use as a zombie coordinator (keep in mind that if it isnt an icon on the screen the mute majority of zps players wont pay attention).
You want us to give the carrier power to put an icon on the screen in an attempt to direct the zombie team? You've been playing too many RTS's if you think directing other players by using waypoints is a good idea while playing an FPS. There are already waypoints in ZPO maps, and on ZPS maps type or use a mic and tell them where to go. If they don't follow your instruction they probably don't have a concept of teamwork and wouldn't follow a waypoint either.
Barricades still dont take physics damage from any props they're supporting making them extremely useful in making inpenetrable barricades if you know the right way.Is this a complaint? Yes, 5 points of physics damage to a plank of wood is going to have such a BIG effect on gameplay. -_-
Zombies are still very disadvantaged against vent campers.What do you want us to do? Remove the vents from our maps?
The flashlight doesnt flicker it when operating normally, only when its about to go out, you're loosing out on a lot of tension there.You must have a pretty crappy flashlight if it's always flickering on you. My flashlights only flicker when they start to run out.
Melee weapons are still virtually useless
You can't use a melee weapon so you call it useless? I ALWAYS carry a melee weapon on me at all times. Personally I'd prefer I choose a melee weapon over a pistol, for a secondary weapon. If you don't like melee weapons that's a personal issue; we don't need to take action.

There are all good points you should probably post this in idea and suggestions instead of the news. I am not going to mention what stuff we are currently working on but just because it is not mentioned in the news post doesn't mean we are not working on it. Until the update is released please keep your complaints about us not fixing blah blah to yourself. If you have ideas please post them in Ideas and Suggestion Thread this is not the right place for your ideas & complaints.

2. No, a simple alteration of zombies' movement physics would do. I've heard devs use the argument that they shouldn't have to accomidate "cheap" players but in that case maybe we should just remove the auto-switch-to-zombie and expect players to do so out of ettiquette and have admins ban them if they dont?
Rather than limit mappers I'd rather see that doing such a thing doesnt unbalance the game for players, thats part of the reason I dislike the current implementation of zombie vision.

You think the survivors had time to rush to the stores to buy new batteries and bulbs? We often peruse the I&S thread and are currently working on the fixes we believe should be implemented. If your I&S's have not yet been addressed you'll just have to be patient. As to avoid spam and off topic discussions please use the appropriate forums in the future. ZPS is far from dead and still the #1 played HL2 mod for a reason. We appreciate your enthusiasm and hopefully our latest changes will improve your own personal outlook on things in the future.

Glitches, new/renovated maps, characters, and gamemodes I could understand you not saying much about but honestly I'd find "Hey this new version will include some fixes to zombie vision and UI tweaks" alot more interesting.

Release Date: TBD (Soon hopefully. Do remember that we just recently reorganized the team and had some old members return. We are interested in smaller but more regular updates instead of waiting months for large content patches because people often forget it takes effort and our free time to get things done :)
I will try to offer something a bit more informative when I can. The whole team is working hard to keep bringing you a great gaming experience at no cost to you and we appreciate all the support some of you have shown us.

If you're talking about the auto-teaming to zombies if nobody joins that team, then I dissagree with you more than ever. To start off with, if they never had that feature, ZPS would probably be dead due to excessive ingame flaming over who has to be the zombie or not, since a very small portion of us (including me) rarely like being a zombie.
Another point is that admins cannot be on the server 24/7 to ban players who refuse to join the zombie team. Again this would add to the death of ZPS, due to players constantly getting banned for a biased reason: not wanting to play as zombies. I feel you on the auto-balance, since I'm not fond of it happening to me myself, but if we didn't have it, would ZPS be anywhere close to what it is today? Sorry chap, but chances are that's something you'll just have to put up with.:zombo:

I like the concept of zps_underground.
It kinda makes up for the removal of zps_subway. A map with some flaws, not made for survival mode, but was still fun on a full server.

Don't assume to know when an update is coming out. Similarly, don't take a status update as "it's supposed to be out already". The announcement of new content looks much different. Lord knows that when I was in charge of releases, we didn't always make our deadlines.

That's actually not true. If you look at http://www.zombiepanic.org/changelog.txt, you'll notice that most releases were NOT any time near Halloween. Only one came out ON Halloween, and the closest one after that is two weeks after. Everything else is pretty much scattershot.
If ZP had released an update once a year, the community would have left ages ago. Heck, six months and they call the mod dead already.

You can probably expect a release date after everything is ready to ship to Valve.

I would also like to see the winchester do more damage, because there are times that the carrier will survive, and in real life 2 shots from a winchester would just murder a zombie

Whoa whoa whoa. Zombies in REAL LIFE?! How did this news escape me?!
But on a sidenote, the Winchester does its job effectively IF you're using it correctly. And that's just further the range of a normal shotgun. The pellets on the Winchester are more tightly packed together, giving it more range and thus, giving you more distance.

the super shorty should have a faster fire rate than it does have. only holds 3 shells. winchester i dont think anyone uses unless they have too.

Winchester is BOMB. The only people who hesitate to use it are the same whom panic at the begining of rounds, and attempt to ninja melee zombies.
Now, on to MY comment:
To the regards of the Zombie panic!:Source team,
Please do release the new Zombie Panic update soon, as it looks very impressive, and I'm very anxious to play it. Perhaps sometime in October? Please do not delay it because of my suggestion- I mean nothing but the best.

remmy can put a normal zombi down in single shot and whitey too, and you don't need to doubleshot a whitey with winchester to get him down either

I thought I remember somewhere in the past the devs saying something to the effect that the zombies were the only thing you had to suspend your disbelief for. Im too lazy to search for it, so feel free to correct me if Im wrong.
So, assuming I'm correct, and that the weapons are supposed to be realistic, I'd say they're pretty well balanced. There are a lot of different types of shotgun loads so its hard to say that definitely you could completely take a zombies head off with 1 12G round, but whatever the load it wouldnt be pretty.

I don't remember the actual numbers, but I think the damage per pellet is 14, and there are 7 pellets per shell. Headshots do 1.5x damage to zombies I think.
So, if all 14 pellets hit the head (7 pellets * 2 shells), you're looking at:
14*14 = 196
196*1.5 = 294
I could be wrong on the numbers though. The pellets could be 8 now, the damage per pellet could be 15, and the head damage could be 2x. But none of that matters really. With the conservative numbers, a doubleshot with the Winchester is enough to take out a carrier. You just have to be close enough so that all the pellets hit the head hitbox. Heck, if you are careful and aim a bit low, only 7 of the pellets have to hit him in the head.

Interesting, thanks for the numbers. I've decided long ago I was going to suspend my disbelief when it comes to ammo loads in this game (mostly the rifle ammo conglomeration) but having a double 12g to the head taking down whitey sounds about right.
It's also tough because shotgun pellet velocity drops off dramatically with distance compared to a rifle cartridge
The pellets will do far less damage at distance than a rifle round will, which I don't think occurs in the source engine, so I assume you'd have to use some average damage which would be underpowered at close range and overpowered at long range. For your limitations, I don't think the damages are too far off.

Heya ZPS team I'm looking forward to the next update just as much as everyone else. But I really hope there could be a few animation fixes along with the new content that looks so good. Still my largest look out would be a X2 damage percentage on melee weapon hits to the head. Melee should always be a useful item given any situation even if these zombies are very tough to kill with even that of a 9mm handgun. Please update melee system I'll heavily look forward to that and anything else new be it a new gun, new map, or complete conversion.
I'll be watching by Halloween for any updates about ZPS

I can't remember what the issue was here, but we always intended for melee to do more head damage. I think the issue is mainly something with the hitboxes?

I forgot about l4d2, your right they do gib like they've been head shoted, although it might not recognize a difference in damage dealt as a melee weapon kills no matter where you hit them.

Also it's probably worth mentioning, the L4D2 engine is vastly different than the source engine. It's feasible they did some fixing to get it to work that way. I'm just saying I think we ran into a dead end even trying to prove that the head hitbox was even being hit.

Depends what item. Blunt = no blade= yes. It is worth mentioning that some blunt items can knock a zombies head off

Just saying that in L4D2, commons get head gibbed off with baseball bat or cricket bat when you hit their head.

They have a pretty involved gib set up in L4D2. Zombies will gib in different ways depending on where and how you hit them. When they get set on fire, they stagger around and collapse. Headshots with any weapons gib the heads, shooting them in the back blow holes in their backs, you can shoot or chop off arms and legs, etc.
I read somewhere that they do the gibs with boolean objects, placing a roundish "null model" on the zombie, then placing a bloody gib model in the gap. Which gives them the freedom to gib all the common zombies the same way, no matter their skin or model detail.
But yeah, good point about the source engine being pretty significantly changed for L4D2. I think it's also a lot more efficient cause it seems like you can get a TON more props and NPCs in view for the same fps on an older source game.

Same of course.. I was expecting something but I am content with nothing because when you do modeling, mapping, any sort of game design, I think you can appreciate the time people dedicate and understand how time consuming it can be.

I play it occasionally, I still enjoy it a lot on default and good custom maps :).
