View Full Version : Use of Fire
A question I have had for a while now, but have never bothered to ask is:
Is it possible to set yourself on fire as a zombie and then transfer it to a survivor?
I know fire can be passed onto zombies, but it is rare to see this happen with surivors(zomibie -> survivor).
The only time I can remember using fire to my advantage was when a survivor was camped under some stairs in a map(can't remember name....) and had the "super" crowbar. We all know what happens from here.
Well, thinking it had a chance of working, I ran into some fire then proceced to set my brotherern on fire. From there is was like dominoes. All the zombies up to the one closest to the last survivor caught on fire then the survivor caught on fire. I saw the crossbones appear for the players name on death suggesting that he was set on fire.
Are they any other ways to use fire or stratagies you guys have used?

It's near impossible. To transfer fire, you have to stand inside/directly touching another player but player collisions prevent players from opposite teams from moving through each other, so your chance of touching another player constantly for 2.5 seconds is VERY slim and pretty much impossible if the survivor isn't co-operating.
But it would be awesome if there was some kind of range or something with the fire that would allow fire to be a useful tactic.

It was actually an accident that fire is transferrable. When we implemented our take on the HL2 fire system, I made it a point to not have people able to transfer fire from one person to another. I did this by changing the default fire damage radius to 0, for person-to-person fire transfer.
HL2 apparently considers "standing on a person" to be 0 radius though, so it was still possible after that. I think that's fine though. It makes it much harder to grief with, but still a viable tactic to set humans on fire.

Any way of coding it so that zombies can transfer fire to only survivors, but still have it so that survivors cant set each other on fire?

I'm sure there is. Actually it would probably be easy, thinking about it. I just never looked into it.
Sweet. Now that I know the limits I can try setting survivors on fire more xD

It's flippin hard to see when set on fire, though. It would be dang hard to set some stupid survivors on fire with flame graphics blocking my screen...
Still, it could give more love to zps_policestation and zps_nightmare. There's a plus.

Definitly, but it is worth a few laughs.
Just remembered play a mall map a few months ago. Zombies had no lives left and the humans were perched on a high ledge near the fire. One of the survivors caight on fire. Due to being close to eachother they all caught on fire and died. xD

XDDDD
I wish I could have seen that.
It is true, every game was the shame weapon. Survivors have the Keyboard, Counter-Strike has the knife, Natural Selection has the welder. Maybe the zombie team can have fire as the shame weapon. :P
That would be cute.
