View Full Version : Level Design Competition Deadline Extension

Zombie Panic fans and contestants,

Due to a lack of entries, and repeated requests to extend the deadline, we feel it is in the best interests of ZPS if we extend the deadline for the competition. The new deadline is May 20th, 2009. Entries that are already submitted can use the time to polish their levels if they feel their project is not complete but they are not required to submit again unless changes have been made to their entry.

Also, if you have a Contingency entry that isn't quite done, work on it and submit it! We need entries for ZPO_Contingency as well.

Thanks,
Zombie Panic Development Team.

Honestly you guys should keep to the original plan of the deadline of April 15. It simply is not fair to those who were punctual, and budgeted their time to finish their maps on time.

Seriously the number of submissions we got were really less than expected, thus the reason to extend the deadline. There's a money prize involved, come on people! :D

The development team feels that we let it slide by the wayside in favor of the MOTY awards, and people forgot about the contest due to that advertisement push. We're simply accounting for that with this extended deadline.

What does the Mod of the year award have to do with non developers mapping for a competition. It really isnt fair to those who were punctual.

Not to be rude...

He simply means that soon after the competition was announced all the news pages and loading screens were all talking about the MotY award, so many people may not have seen the competition until after all that died down.

Levtastic is correct. We feel that attention to the contest was diverted due to the MOTY contest, and therefore people forgot or just didn't see it because the news about the contest was pushed down very quickly.

And, in addition, those that finished have the month to be able to polish their entries. It's not like we are telling those that already submitted that they can't use the month either.

I would ask that further disagreements be discussed privately, please.

Thanks.

Will there be multiple maps, as 2 will be winners and maps posted but will there be "losers" maps posted as well? I'd like to test multiple versions until its to my liking :D

i joined this contest because i had time for it until it has ended.
as already said, i dont have time in the next month to improve my map.
so its a big disadvantage for me in this contest. its not fair to extend this contest.

Guys there are a couple reasons we've extended the deadline as we had to last mapping competition.

I was away from my family and work for 3 weeks helping out a family friend with their farm work. While I had to return early due to a family emergency I managed to get them caught up earlier than expected and so here I am. The extension gives me a chance to catch up and to participate in this competitions judging which I'm excited about.

Unfortunately, this year has been busy for modders and our mapping competition was a bit overlooked due to news such as Mod of the Year and what not. Because of this we didn't receive enough entries to justify a proper competition. Instead we decided to extend and give those who caught it late a chance to participate and for those who like to put a bit more time into their maps. Unfortunately this means those who choose to be too busy to spare a couple hours a week to work on their maps a tough break.

This decision is final and unless you want to bribe me with your hawt step sister or a load of cash it's just not gonna change no matter how unfair you believe it to be.

I'm quite excited to see what there is to see, so work hard people and I wish you all the best of luck.

Tats...

(FYI This is a first warning for all those that wish to pursue complaining about the extension. I understand how you feel but further complaints will be considered spam)

Then the competition was anyonce dI was thinking about particapating in it but after playing these 2 maps in ZP Classic nothing touched me and my imagination. I got few ideas but found out that maps like I may create will be boring and not fun at all. So I'd better return to my map then I get enough motivation for this.

oi!, so i really didn't have to stay up till like 4:30 in the morning for two weeks straight...
doh! all that zombie vision for nothing :P

it's just kind of a shame, with so little entries you know?
I was expecting only a few entries anyways. (most of them being zombo)
so it's not really a big surprise there.
can you tell us how many you got in total?

i do understand where your coming from though,
whether it be this or that you guys ultimately call the shots anyways eh?

but it's not like a chance to sharpen things up is a bad thing at all!
the chance to even bring a little more to the table is much appreciated.

although, when these are all submitted again...
PLEASE, inform the community when you have chose a winner ASAP!
because i would like to keep working on my map after all this,
and i can't really touch it until i know that the results are in & I'm in the clear.

thanks for the update!

( and if there is no contingency floating around... you can always pick 2 zombo winners.
although i am almost certain you will cringe as you read this sentence )

If you haven't noticed, we haven't even *announced* the design we're using. You won't see a shirt until at least after we announce the shirt is for sale.

You use the same map editor that you use for any source game. That is, Hammer.

Or do you mean the .fgd? There's a thread in the mapping section that is all about setting up hammer for ZPS.

Looks like he just doesn't know how to set it up for ZPS, that is if hes always just done it for TFC he may never had explored that dimension of configuring it for a mod.

Well. Two days until deadline. Heh. Thanks to the extension, I will have an entry, but I'm finding optimization is taking a lot longer than expected.

How's everyone else coming along?

Yea just didnt have enough time, but we will still finish our version, will probably name it something else though cause there will already be a contingency. Best of luck to all entries!

Oof, that sucks. I originally dropped out since I had a big work project come up, but the deadline extension encouraged me to finish up my Club Zombo map. I didn't work on a Contingency at all unfortunately -- just no time.

Doing final touches and some extra optimization right now. I'm worried cause I can't properly test the last objective since the game_win stuff doesn't work with sv_testmode turned on, and I can't get the Dedicated Server stuff to work properly...

Well, I've sent in my entry, using the final hours to tweak a couple things and struggle with pakrat.

I'm glad there's a deadline, else I'd probably never finish tweaking, refining, and adding crap. Heh.

Good luck to all. Can't wait to see the entries. :)

Well, I worked to the wee hours of many nights, and only have a non-working skeleton of contingency....I'm anxious to see if anyone got it done and if they did, how much justice was done to it :)

Looking very much forward to seeing the Entries/Winners!

Just sent the fixed version of my map ***comes with a new spawn! This week only! So order now!*** Well not new, I moved the spawn from the road to the alley way. Fixed up stuff, and all that jazz. I did all of it today also, because I didn't have time to actually do anything else.

Same here we had about I'd say 30% of the brush work done (mostly because I got in a fight with hammer over a certain corner)
