So, you boot up the game, join a server and get playing...But has anyone ever wondered why we play out these little situations? Who are these people? If this is a zombie holocaust, why is it only whitey at the start of the round, where are the shambling hordes of the undead...

So this is my reasoning:
The apocalypse has been and gone. The undead came, and went, mankind went back to doing it's everyday thing. Sure, some parts of the world remain in ruin, but otherwise life is peachy..

Untill somebody spots a whitey...A single zombie that somehow survived the cull, it's body hardened by the years. Crawling out of the rubble and hunting for fresh flesh..Plus it's super pissed off.

This is where you come in.

A group of zombie hunters, some trained by law inforcement, some just joining up for thrill of the hunt, are sent into the quarantine zone to blow this stench's brains out and stop the infection spreading again..It's an easy job..isn't it?

so, thats my view. Anyone else ever given this any thought?

Interesting take...

I'd argue, considering the official maps and player models, the following is a possibility.

Regular zombies either don't last long, or typically stay where they're turned. White zombies, are the "hunters" who's mission it is to find and turn the remaining humans. I'd say the apocalypse, while certainly in full swing, isn't complete.

On many maps, there is electricity and gun fire ambiance which would suggest scattered resistance, if not military backing.

Your "group" of survivors are either a roving band of people who found each other, or perhaps depending on the map, just a group of people who managed to hole up somewhere. As you continue about your path to freedom, a "white hunter" stumbles upon your party (or was stalking you the whole time,) then of course the fun begins.

Thanks tats, I wasn't sure if this was worthy of Fan Fiction. :)

I see it more as a shaun of the dead scenario, only more serious. Zombies came but nobody knows how or why. The survivors sought shelter and supplies and that's how they end up at the maps. They don't know for sure if the place is infested, but have little alternatives so...

Based from sound files mostly:

seeking shelter:
"It's getting late, we need to find shelter"
"This place is too quiet. We shouldn't stay here long" ('here' as in the spawn, I assume)

and supplies:
"This pistol ain't gonna got, maybe there's weapons around here"
"There's gotta be supplies around here. Split up and find them"

zombies or not:
"Are you guys sure about this? This place doesn't look right"
"Wait, something ain't right. Let's clear the area"

The cop doesn't mention anything about needing to find extra guns or supplies. He only cares about breaking bottoms and necks off, which I find a little odd. He could use some 'find-stuff' vsays when the round starts, to be honest. In the same note, the uuh, other guy could say something when camping instead of just coughing and sniffing like he's on drugs.

btw, cop's camp-06 is hilarious xD

in my upcoming zpo_area52 map, all will be revealed about the origins of the zombies

I like the idea of having a big ZPS fanfiction to support the maps. Perhaps people could take turn writing stories for each map?

Yeah, that would be a fantastic idea! Forgive me if this is stupid (this is my first post after all ) but we could run a competition here and the winning backstory gets displayed when you select the map in the actual game!

That's a great idea, but the backstory would have to be shortened from a fan fiction to a simple description, as I'm sure most people don't want to read an epic fanfiction about how the survivors end up in zps_silence when they want to actually play the map.
