I wander about and pick up every pistol checking it for ammo. You're making it too easy to collect 4-5 fully loaded pistols to defend myself with.

Meh, just get one pistol of each type, and just extract the ammo from the pistols on the ground ;-)

I always drop any excess pistols I have in the area the humans are defending at the moment, so whoever that lacks ammo can use them. I mostly keep one as a sidearm to take out wounded zombies with, though.

I find it depends largely on the maps. Ones that I know the layout of really well and can get around fast before getting ambushed, I tend to just ditch everything for speed, as quite frankly if I'm in need of a pistol there's bound to be some dead survivors around who had some ;)
