In order to play ZP:S you need the following.

1. Steam ( www.steampowered.com )
2. A working version of any kind of source mod that allows you to download the Source SDK Base which is located in the tools tab.
3. After all this make sure HL2 or whatever you're using has been played along with SDK base installed.
4. Install ZP:S into the following directory.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods

If you've got steam running restart it, upon doing so go into the games tab and there should be ZP:S. Enjoy.

It's free if you have Half Life 2 which is rather cheap nowadays. You need HL2 to play a lot of 3rd party source mods.

Hey there,
I'm having the same kind of problem.

I've got HL:Source installed and it shows up in my steam "My Games" tab, along with 2 third party mods Insects Infestation and Pirates Vikings and Knights II.

In my "Tools" tab I've got Source SDK Base, Source SDK and some other items.

I've followed all the instructions in the thread (install Steam, install HL:S, play HL:S, install ZP:S) and it's not showing up in my "My Games" tab... I've been waiting months to play this game and it's really frustrating that it's not working!!!

Any ideas?

Go to C:/ProgramFiles/Steam/SteamAPPS/SourceMods
And move the whole ZPS folder to

C:/ProgramFiles/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/SourceMods

Restart steam, and you should be able to play.

I'm totally confused.

What exactly do I have to do, and what exactly do I need, to play this mod?

I have HL2, by the way.

I installed Zombie Panic using all the default options in the install (It went to C:/ProgramFiles/Steam/SteamAPPS/SourceMods), so how do I get to it? Is there something else I need to do? And if I find it, how do I play it?

Install HL2 and the Source SDK base, that should be it.

yah its bull crap
these people have worked long and hard to make a great game but
all the crap you have to do to play its just stupid
its a huge flaw
so im just gonna wait until you have your own servers or what ever the hell it is

i know but the fact that its not its own game
that i rtealized not long ago and thats crap
if they can go this far then they should figure a way to have their own servers
(not half life)

Uh servers have nothing to do with being our own game or not... This is a mod so you have to have the source engine in order to run it. For us to make our own engine it would take years, a lot of money, and the game would not be anything like it is today.

i know i get it but the game it self has absolutely nothing to do with halflife
why should i need to have it
and by servers i meant something totallly different
not servers (yeah i know i meant something totally different)
..oh forget it, this is a waste of time

It's a modification of Half Life 2, and you can't mod something that you don't have. So that's why you need to have it. You're using the HL2 engine and everything else.

I hear this:

"I want to be able to play Zombie Panic: Source for free, but I'm too cheap to afford buy a Source game, which is required to play any source mod."

Come on! These games are cheap!!! I purchased the Orange box from the store for $65 AU (because my mate works there :P) and I got Five games + Zombie Panic: Source and then I can get any other mod I want for FREE.

Even then, the cheapest Source game is $10 for one game, and then you can get Zombie Panic: Source... that's two realy good games for $10! That's 1/8th of the cost to fill my car up with petrol... (I should stop thinking of it like that...)

C:/ProgramFiles/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/SourceMods

Restart steam, and you should be able to play.

That worked - thanks! Bloody annoying though, even though in the installer I specifically pointed it to Valve/Steam...etc it still went and just stuck it straight into C:/steam...etc. I've played it now and I've got to say, so far it's really not got me hooked.
