I'm currently about to make a large school work on Satanism (~10 pages...). If anyone here has any info of it, or know of useful links, I would appreciate if you could post it here.

This thread can also be used to discuss Satanism in general.

Only thing I know is that Shock rocker Marilyn Manson is supposedly a follower. Some Satan minister ordained him or some such. One will never know, as manson would just "follow" it to outrage more people. Course with manson you really never can be too sure....

Oooooo *raises hand*

Why are you doing a school research paper on Satanism, and is it a Christan, or other religously based school?

It's a Satanic School. Why else would they be studying Satanism?

I cant think of any christian school that would ask a student to study satansim, at least nothing before college.

True to an extent; I can pick whatever I want as long as it has to do with religion.

To fully understand Satanism, it's best to study it in terms of Christianity. While on the surface Satanism sounds like actual worship of Satan, that is misleading. It is actually a set of life guidelines that are the opposite of fundamental Christian beliefs. Where a Christian sees that humility is necessary, Satanism strives for pride. Where self sacrifice is important in Christianity, self-gratification is important to a satanist. And while Christians worship God, Satanists worship themselves. It's a different spin on hedonism with ceremonies to represent the destruction of an enemy (someone who gets in the way of your goals to please yourself).

That's the way I understand it anyway.

"Know your enemy" but then again, Christian orginizations seem to think if you try to understand something you get sucked in and become what it is you are trying to understand..

Yeah, LaVey, the now deceased head-honcho of the Church of Satan, crowned Manson an "honorary member."

Satanism is, in the Church of Satan, self-worship, essentially. Each man is, according to such ideology, his own "god." Most "Satanists" aren't like the traditional belief of Satanism; they don't truly worship the lord of hell, usually perceived as evil, though some do.

That's pretty much exactly it, at least with most "Satanists."

LaVey actually created the church of Satan. Before that demon worshippers didn't really have a label other than witch or warlock, and what LaVey created really wasn't anything but ordinary day to day hedonism, concentrated to be specifically anti-Christian. To be honest, after looking at Satanism that LaVey created, the name just seems to be chosen to reflect that it really is the opposite of Christianity.

I have no idea where you get that. Christianity is all about understanding other people and trying to relate to them in a brotherly and understanding way while denying your own needs. No Christian that I know considers any group to be an enemy. People just believe differently, and Christians believe that people who don't believe the same thing they do are "lost".

Christians don't sit in church afraid that the big bad atheist is going to argue with them. Christians go out and reach people, save lives, feed the hungry, visit prisoners, and counsel those in need. If anything, Christians learn about other religions to gain a better understanding of how to better relate and explain things to them.

Satan is actually Christian representation of Paganism, among other things. In fact, the pentagram itself, along with the goat pictured in the middle (common illustration of Satan), are Pagan in nature.

I read somewhere that the pentagram was used at one point in christian theology.... might have even been pre- Christ. Cant recall the source however.. or if its even correct.

My friend talked me through his copy of the Satanic Bible, and he said it basically boils down to getting revenge on people and getting what you think you deserve.

Slightly irelevant, but check out this (http://video.glath.com/view/metalocalypse.Religionklok) episode of Metalocalypse, which takes a look at a couple of releigions, finsihing with Satanism, I kinda agree with the final conclusion about religion in the episode.

You pretty much got it Frika.

The pentagram is a pagan symbol, but the Symbol of Baphomet is a satanic symbol. Inverted pentagram with the horned goat (Some saying that represents Satan) which goes back to the Knights Templar.

I think the biggest reason I don't follow the Christian/Catholic religion is the amount of hypocritical followers who ram their beliefs down my throat.
And I've had a Catholic put some sort of hex or something on me...I don't know, whatever is was, was in latin.

Harier, Catholics, or any kinda of christian for that matter, cannot put Hexes on people. Odds are it was a latin prayer or the person was just messed up.

I do agree there are a lot of hypocritical beleivers, those whom ram religion down on people are not following scripture anyway.

So, I apologize that you had to deal with that sort of thing. I have seen its like before and all it gets is an ill feelling towards the religion. :(
