What You Need To Map For Zombie Panic.
Editors:
Valve Hammer Editor: (VHE)
VHE is VALVe's official editor. It evolved out of the Worldcraft editor for Quake 1 and is most peoples editor of choice. All the official maps from Half-Life were created using VHE. You can download VHE 3.4 from here (http://collective.valve-erc.com/data/docs/1039631978-44855700/files/hammer_v34.exe), and the VHE 3.5 beta from here. (http://collective.valve-erc.com/data/docs/1050662008-07225900/files/hammer_testbuild04.zip)
QuArK:
QuArK is a powerfull multi-engine editor that works with the following engines. Quake, Hexen 2, Quake 2, Heretic 2, Half-Life, SIN, Kingpin, Soldier of Fortune, Quake 3:Arena (+ Team Arena), Star Trek:Voyager-Elite Force, Crystal Space engine, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, 6DX engine, Torque engine, Jedi Knight 2:Jedi Outcast, Medal of Honor:Allied Assault, Soldier of Fortune 2:Double Helix, Sylphis engine and Daikatana. You can get QuArK from here (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~quark/download.php3#help)
Note: Zombie Panic currently has no QuArK configuration file, but if any members of the community that use QuArK decide to make one, please inform me, and I'll include it here for every ones use.
GtkRadiant 1.4.0
My personal favorite. A powerfull editor based on Q3 Radiant for Quake 3. It supports many engines, but the version that can edit Half Life maps only supports Half Life, Quake 2 and Heretic 2. It's a powerfull, easy to use editor once you set it up. You can get GtkRadiant 1.4.0 from here (http://qeradiant.com/?data=files&files_id=78)
Qoole - The first editor for Quake 1 (apart from notepad :P) it's outdated, and a hell of a lot of fun to use. It's now open source, so it can be improved upon. It supports Half-Life too. Download it from the Qoole site here (http://qoole.gamedesign.net/)
Tread 3D - Another open source editor that supports Half Life. It's old, and was a good idea. I havn't checked in on it in a while, but it was a great editor in it's day. Last time I checked there wasn't an update since 1999. It looks like there was an update in 2003. You may want to check this editor out. Their site is here (http://www.planetquake.com/tread/)
Note: I'm pretty sure Tread has it's ows configuration file format, but am too lazy to check. Just like QuArK, it may need a custom config file.
Compile Tools:
Nems Batch Compiler - Used to compile maps with a smoother interface, easier access and more variables. Also comes with descriptions of variable flags. Grab it here (http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?p=3)
Added on November 2nd, 2004
XP-Cagey's HL Compile Tools (ZHLT1.7 p15) - Based on Zoners Tools, theese are the best all around tools in existance for Half Life. Grab em here (http://xp-cagey.com/downloads/zhlt_1.7p15.zip)
Added on October 6th, 2004: XP-Cagey has handed the tools off to amckern. A new beta build is out, see this (http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=81213) thread from the NS mapping forums for details.
Zoners Compile Tools (ZHLT1.7) - Very good tools. They are worlds apart from the primitive tools that VALVe distributes with the SDK and the game. Grab em here (http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?go=mhlt).
Added on October 6th, 2004: http://www.zhlt.info/ has more information on both ZHLT and XP-Cageys tools.
The Official Tools (aka Qtools) - Distributed with the HL SDK and with Half-Life, theese tools basically suck, don't use them.
<s>Game Data File:</s> (depreciated)
note: The link to the fgd is not active. It is also included in the new releases.
The Zombie Panic Game Data File (The .fgd for use with VHE and GtkRadiant) is available in this thread.
Click here (http://zpanic.marineeater.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=55) for the .fgd.
The QuQrK configuration file in non-existant at the moment. PM me if you make one.
