A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastry) dough shell that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetness) or savoury (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoury) ingredients. Pies can be either "filled", where a dish is covered by pastry and the filling is placed on top of that, "top-crust," where the filling is placed in a dish and covered with a pastry/potato mash top before baking, or "two-crust," with the filling completely enclosed in the pastry shell. Pies can be a variety of sizes, ranging from bite-size to ones designed for multiple servings.

This is a pie. A pie is often nutritious and full of flavour, and can be of many flavours. Apple, Blackberry, Minced Beef, Chicken, Cottage, Shepherd's...Yes, the pie is a wonderful thing.

The pie is disappointed in you. He believes that you undervalue his powers, and that you do not understand that he could save you from certain death against the undead. Yes, he believes that if only you grasped the rules of "cutting the pie", you would one day become "leet" amongst the survivor community.

CUTTING THE PIE!

Yep, it's Blitzy again, author of ZPS' best-selling "Hints and Tips... (http://www.zombiepanic.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10677)" Survivor Guide, now available in online format at most participating ZPS Survivor Strategy Forum Sections. I have no more room to post anything else into it, and I'm bored, so forgive me for bringing you yet another masterpiece that is a Survivor Guide.

(Well, it ain't gonna be long. It's only one point!)

After participating in several ZPS rounds amongst several ZPS servers recently, I found ONE MAJOR RULE was being abandoned in favour of greed. Yes. Greed. One of the seven deadly sins, and now, one of the Survivors' greatest enemies.

http://www.zombiepanic.org/media/weapons/AK47.jpg

The AK-47. Mouth-watering, isn't it? Its beautiful stopping power and "rocknroll" psychological boost bring ecstasy to those lucky enough to wield it.

It also brings pain. And sadness. And misery.

Yes, if it wasn't for the AK, or MP5, or Remmington, Survivors would still be alive today. But they exist. And we must be wary of them. This is the lesson that the Pie would like to teach you.

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/2378/pie1x.jpg

You (the blue dot) are at a corner. The orange box in front of you, is my amazing representation of an AK-47. The green dot is a zombie waiting in ambush, and he's about to take advantage of your greed.

The AK-47 has taken over your mind. Your sight is fixed upon it. You don't care about life anymore. You don't care about the undead. You want the AK. You want it now.

So you run straight up to it.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1273/pie2n.jpg

Your sight is now fixed upon the ground as you go and pick the AK-47 up. As you scream in delight, the zombie's on your shoulder. You didn't even THINK that a random AK-47 lying right next to a corner would equal an ambush point. You draw the AK quickly, but its drawing time is too much for you. You lose.

Yes, this is what greed does to us, ladies and gentlemen. This is why we complain that zombies know all the ambush points, and we should ban them all. It's because we don't check our surroundings, or our corners, or above us, or anything. We just look in front. At the AK-47. And scream in delight.

This situation could've went oh so much butter.

Instead of running straight up to the loot on the ground, or whenever you're going around ANY corner, CUT THE PIE.

By this, I mean move as far away as possible from the wall/corner, and circle-strafe around it, keeping your vision fixed upon the corner and beyond it, as the black lines represent here. Doing this means you will be able to see what is around the corner quicker, and if something IS waiting there, you have a fair bit of distance between you.

This technique takes a SECOND. Literally. It's not an advanced button-combo, it's not "for the 1337". It's common-sense, and by employing this in your every day playing, you will become stronger.

Whether it's the Subway Rafters or Biotec's Big Hall, Hideout's alleyways or Norad's basement corridors, LOOK EVERYWHERE. When going around a corner, cut the pie. If the room's high enough or if there are rafters/catwalks, look up too! All I'm trying to point out here is that by checking all the corners you pass, and all the blind spots that zombies could hide behind, you will live longer. The weapon in front of you isn't going anywhere. Take CAUTION before you pick it up. Or if it's THAT dangerous, don't pick it up at all.

You've been a wonderful audience, thank you, and goodnight!

Don't tell the greedy people how to get away with their greed!
they should get eaten by zombies. XD

I know on redqueen i like to knock all the guns down near the keycard to right infront of the spawn there, just to give those greedy people even more chance of getting caught out, so i can laugh scornfully and say 'you could have just walked out and lived, but you had to be greedy and go for those guns'

The satisfaction from something like that is great XD

I first learned about this in Insurgency because this was absolutely critical in that mod (ironically, against enemies armed with certain Russian weapons). I've been trying to use this tactic ever since.

Nice guide.

Haha, I love your illustration of it, Blitzy!

And I personally have to admit that greed gets hold of me on many occasions. It is truly any survivor's worst enemy. I have played Zombie Panic Source since its release, and Zombie Panic 1 prior to that, and one would think that I would have learnt by now. But no, I sure haven't. When I see the weapon of my desire, I can't think straight! If there's another survivor right behind me going for the same weapon I usually think "Screw it! I rather die trying than letting him getting my gun!" even in situations where I'm almost certain I will get myself killed.

Moral of the story: Don't underestimate the pressure many survivors feel in the weapon rush when they are competing with other survivors for the weapon they are lusting for. Picture the same situation mentioned by you, but with another greedy survivor right behind you desperately yearning for that AK. Making an evasive manoeuvre to the side, killing the zombie, might give him the chance of getting hold of the weapon with his greedy hands, because he walked straight and was thus able to reach the destination faster.

This is an important tactic when playing any game. Even when I play CQB airsoft, this is one of the most basic tactics. Nice job though. Too many people die because they're ignorant of their surroundings, and I can't stand it. I'm naturally that way because I'm uncomfortable if I'm not either hidden in shadow or behind a barricade. And being hidden in shadow doesn't really work in ZPS. I'm actually hyper aware sometimes. My eyes pick up the slightest movement. Anybody play CoD4? Those little floating pieces of trash annoy me so much because my eyes insist looking at them.

Sorry for the rant. Nice job.
