So you've reached the point where the smoke has cleared, the voice chat has gone quiet and all you can hear is the distant moaning of zombies. You think you're the last survivor alive and you need to try to win out the round on your own. Here are some tips on beating the zombie menace with no friends to help you.

Alternate between hiding and moving

Contrary to popular belief survivors are reddest in zombie vision when they have been moving a lot but also when they stay still for long periods of time. So by moving between supplies and hiding for short periods to recharge your stamina you will keep yourself in the difficult to spot range.

You're also only one person, staying in one place will leave you overwhelmed. If you keep moving zombies get frustrated and split up to search the map allowing you to pick them off individually.

The best hiding places are the unexpected hiding places

Areas which are the best for hiding are where zombies will often not bother to check. A good example is the shadows near the burning truck zombie spawn point in deadend. At the end of the game no zombies will be spawning and you can often grab the shotgun there as most players don't bother to pick this up early on.

Always carry a pistol

As you will be keeping moving you will need to find ammo on the move. The most plentiful is the red pistol ammo which is light so won't slow you down much and can often be found in its spawn locations as most players would rather search for the powerful weapons. Thus if you know a map well you can easily run and gun, filling up as you go along.

Always keep your flashlight off!

Well most of the time that you can possibly do without it. You need to keep the zombies split up and the flashlight acts as a beacon to draw the zombies towards you en masse. It can also be seen through some walls (mainly in custom maps), allowing zombies to find your hiding places.

Minimise the weight you carry

If you are walking around at the endgame you will sometimes find much guns and ammo (although unfortunately this usually means you will have more zombies to deal with). Resist the temptation to fill every weapon slot, as although you will be well armed you will slow to a crawl and be easily killed as you can only fire one weapon at once. Try instead to leave weapons near your hiding places.

Magnum>Rifles>Shotgun

In this situation you will often come across zombies which are unaware of your presence. Use this to your advantage to pick your battles and take headshots on zombies who aren't madly strafing about for once. Rifles are also useful as they have a quick rate of fire allowing you to get away from a group although they should be saved for this purpose.

Shotguns are relatively useless in sole survivor situation as they cannot do enough damage quickly enough to be useful, I recommend leaving them where they are if you can find anything that's not a ppk.

Get to know the armour/health spawnpoints

Armour and health is essential to prolonging your life and on some servers this respawns so make surew you check on your circuit of the map.

If you can't find any zombies you could be infected!

This has happened to me a couple of times, the carrier takes a swipe at you when you have full health and you wander the map trying to find the other zombies. Then you hear the heartbeat sound and realise that you're infected!

Many people don't know that if you are the last human but got infected you won't win, instead the round ends with a zombie win if you turn, or even if you kill yourself.

So you have a choice, either wander round for a bit to annoy all the spectators or take the honourable way out with a grenade!

Two people with one magnum each will kill zombies faster than one person with two magnums though.

I would drop the other magnum for someone else to find.

oh and stealth can go a long way when your the last one. keep gunfire to a minimum. During the game remember where all your teammates died approximately. There will be most likely ammo on their dead bodies. Go from body to body as quiet as possible looking for magnum/rifle ammo.

Was just re-reading what I wrote and one aspect I missed out was:

Voice Chat

Avoid using voice chat whenever possible. New players may not have realised that zombies can see on their score board how many humans are left whereas humans cannot.

Although you might think you are not the only person left, it is not a good idea to keep talking on voice comm and especially not to reveal your location. In my experience 95% of the time you think you're the only one left, it's because you are, however if you are not the only player left it's not a good idea to let the zombies know you're split up. It may be a good idea to type out a quick team chat message, asking if there is anyone else alive but other than that it is important to listen carefully.

At the endgame you will often be vastly outnumbered and it is important that you listen out for zombie groans, especially when turning blind corners, as this will help you avoid large groups of zombies more easily.
